Common misunderstandings.
1) What is Xylidine?
Xylidine: (CH3)2C6H3NH2. Pale yellow to
brown liquid with a weak, aromatic amine odor. The substance decomposes on burning
producing nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. Reacts violently with strong
oxidants. Reacts with hypochlorites forming explosive chloroamines. Attacks
plastic and rubber. The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation
of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion. The substance irritates the
eyes and the skin. The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting
in formation of methaemoglobin. Exposure far above the OEL may result in death.
The effects may be delayed in case of skin absorption. Medical observation is
indicated. The substance may have effects on the kidneys, liver and blood. Basically,
its not your best friend.
